LA Battles Record-Breaking High Temperatures Only One Week Following Major Winter Weather.
Following a week of torrential rains that resulted in floodwaters across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now confronting abnormally warm conditions for late February.
Record-Shattering Heat
By Friday afternoon, the temperature climbed to 91°F (33°C) in downtown Los Angeles, per data from meteorologists. This exceeds the old record for February 27th, which was 88°F (31°C) and was recorded in 2025.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were highlighted on official charts for the region.
Public Health Alerts
Forecasters stated that Friday's conditions posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their guidance featured:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Ensuring you do not leave children or pets unattended in a hot car.
A Sharp Weather Swing
This sudden spike in heat comes on the heels of a intense storm system that battered the area last week. That storm delivered heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, triggering evacuation orders for countless residents.
Tragically, the conditions also triggered a large avalanche in the Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.
Temperatures Easing
Forecasters predict cooler conditions is expected. Temperatures were forecast to fall to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in central Los Angeles by Friday night.
Other locales that experienced the 90-degree mark included Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Additionally, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were projected to experience the high eighties.
For the weekend, central LA can anticipate temperatures in the 80s, with cooler weather expected for the start of March.
