Paceman Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Problems.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

The English seamer added to the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the field early on day two in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left leg post-delivery of the fourth over on Saturday.

The touring camp reported Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time away from the action for further assessment "during the day".

The series decider of the tour in Sydney begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has previously lost strike bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was called up as injury reinforcement.

His form was underwhelming early in the series, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was dropped from the previous Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, then making 28 as a batsman among just a trio of England players who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he resumed on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Unfortunately, at the end of that over, he bowled a change of pace to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission the previous Test.
