The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that Pluribus would turn into a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed sci-fi show coming to an end—and Season 2 officially in the works—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and audience predictions about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Will the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the writers aren’t being guided by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to abandon a decent plan for a better idea. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
