The UK is prepared to move forward with employing the total value of frozen Russian funds to support the Ukrainian defense operations, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a joint statement, the heads of state of the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this unified step would heighten pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and urge Russia to come to the table.

They added that the decision would be implemented in strong partnership with the United States.

UK penalties have frozen in excess of £25bn of Russian resources since Russia initiated its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. But, until now, money sent to the Ukrainian government using Russian assets had only been taken from earnings and returns accrued on them.

Sir Keir informed Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their aim to drive progress toward employing the complete amount of the seized Russia's state holdings to end the war.

He stated that further measures in the coming days and weeks would increase the strain on the Russian government.

This announcement follows European Union representatives met in the Danish capital previously to consider using frozen Russian funds for a 140-billion-euro credit to the Ukrainian nation.

In the previous month, US President Donald Trump called on Group of Seven partners to confiscate or otherwise use frozen Russian funds, as reported by news outlets.

The value of immobilized Russia's holdings in the EU is calculated to be approximately €211bn.

Moscow executed extensive bombardments across Ukraine on recently, leading to power cuts in many areas of Ukraine's capital, the city, and several other zones.

Two people were killed and no fewer than 20 people were wounded in the strike, the Ukrainian government reported.

In a update on an online platform subsequent to the strike, Zelensky stated that the cynical and calculated attack focused on non-military and power facilities.

"What is required is not mere statements but firm measures - from the US, the European Union, and the Group of Seven - in delivering defense mechanisms and implementing sanctions," he wrote.

"All penalty impositions weakens Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky declared, in a separate post.

In the same period, Zelensky told media outlets he would encourage Sir Keir to enter the PURL programme, under which alliance members acquire military equipment from the United States to provide to the Ukrainian forces.

While praising the United Kingdom's firm backing for Ukraine, he said it should demonstrate clearly that it would engage in the initiative, as well as impose further measures on Russia.
